Abstract: The paper presents some issues regarding the effect of humidity on the flame stability in the steam generator burners. The couclusion of our research is that some mineral substances contained in low quality solid fuels act as catalysls in the ignition start up and even contribute to the flame supporting. Also, the activation energy of the fuel combustion is important for the ignition temperature. So a low vallue of the activation energy determines a lower ignition temperature. The ignition of the fuel dust blown in the steam generator burners depends on the coal qualities if comes from, but also on the thermal conditions around the partide. The content of the volatile substances is essential in the ignition of the fuel partide of low quality solid fuel. To know the composition of the volatile substances is an important issue in order to determine the heat released before the ignition of the carbon residue, which is achieved by a surface intensive gasification. This phenomenon was proved by the research of the authors of the present paper.
